When a roadmap outgrows a team, the reflex is to open a requisition. But a senior hire is a six-month bet: months to source and close, more to ramp, and real cost if it does not work out. Sometimes that bet is right. Often the roadmap cannot wait for it.
Embedding, done properly
Staff augmentation has a reputation problem because it is usually done badly: bodies by the hour, communication overhead, code you quietly rewrite later. Done properly, it looks different — engineers vetted for communication as rigorously as for code, working your hours whether you are in San Francisco, London, or Singapore, and productive inside the first week because senior people do not need a quarter to find their footing.
It is also the only version of this decision you can test cheaply. Our first week is free: put the engineer on real tasks, judge the work, and if you are not happy you pay nothing. No hiring process offers that trial.
